It is of our interest that the parliament proposed an amendment to our Penal Code reading:

Prostitution of minor under 18 outside Singapore
376C.— (1) Any person, being a citizen or a permanent resident of Singapore, who does, outside Singapore, any act that would, if done in Singapore, constitute an offence under section 376B (Prostitution of minor under 18), shall be guilty of an offence. (2) A person who is guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable to the same punishment to which he would have been liable had he been convicted of an offence under section 376B.

and as we delved deeper into the meaning behind this amendment, myriad accounts of children being trafficked for child sex tourism surfaced; it saddens us to hear that there are more than a million child prostitutes in Asia alone.

in a CNA Report, dated 08 November 2006, "some 600 men go to Batam every week for sex with under-aged girls, and most of them are Singaporean men".

and this is a real problem in Asia.

it is in this light that we seek to invoke your awareness towards these kids whose ages are probably similar to that of our younger siblings. stop treating them as commodities. join us in hands in fighting against child prostitution by signing the online petition!
